After a considerable amount of time teasing the 8.8-inch Android tablet, Lenovo has finally officially launched its Legion Y700 device in China. While the full specs had already been revealed, the Chinese OEM had kept very quiet about the price tags. However, these have now been unveiled, with the two Legion Y700 SKUs getting very competitive domestic prices:
The prices are a little steeper than had been hoped for, but they are likely going to be attractive to tablet shoppers in China. It seems the Lenovo Legion Y700 has been pitted mostly against the iPad Mini 6, with even the manufacturer itself stating this supposed rivalry in social media posts. The 64 GB base model of the iPad Mini 6 costs a hefty 3,799 yuan in China (US$602), so Android fans can pick up the 12 GB + 256 GB variant of the Legion Y700 and still have change in comparison.
In fact, Lenovo is making the deal even sweeter for customers in China by cutting the prices from now until March 10:
Of course, you wouldn’t expect a Snapdragon 870 to keep up with an Apple A15 Bionic chip, but considering the rest of the Legion Y700 specs and these price points, it seems Lenovo has produced a true competitor for the compact tablet market that is dominated by the iPad Mini 6. There’s no sign of whether the Lenovo Legion Y700 will make an appearance outside of China, although if it does you can guarantee that those price tags will be considerably higher.
