Rec hockey: Leavitt Electric finishes regular season at 18-0-2
ROCHESTER – Leavitt Electric rolled past RSA Realty during the final night of the Rochester Men’s Hockey League’s regular season, 10-3, to improve to 18-0-2.
Leavitt will be the top seed and earn a first-round in the league tournament, which opens next Monday. RSA (5-13-2) will play in the opening round.
Zach Leavitt, Dave Robicheau and Travis Smalley each had two goals for Leavitt, while Chris Hitchcock notched a goal and three assists. CJ Jerry (2 assists), Matt Surina (assist) and Josh Terry (assist) also lit the lamp. Tyler Briand made 26 saves in goal.
Jamie Ferullo had two goals for RSA, while Jon Ellis added one. Steve Stripto stopped 41 shots.
Homecare of New England breezed past Zoeller Realty Group, 6-1, behind three points from Kyle Carignan (2-1).
Alex Turgeon (assist), Kory Ferullo, Drew Pepin and Matt Keene also scored for Homecare (11-8-1). Zach Aumand turned aside 46 shots.
Jeff Berlin scored for Zoeller (6-14-0). Lennie Foss made 35 saves.
In the nightcap, DeNiro Development outslugged Franman Transportation, 11-6.
Franman led 2-0 after the first period, but DeNiro responded to lead 5-4 after two stops and then exploded with six goals in the third.
Chris Atwood had a big night for DeNiro (13-7-0) with four goals and four assists. Eric Pederson had four goals and two assists, while Alex Devine added a goal and three helpers. Tom Gillum (assist) and Cam MacLeod also scored. Mike Sullivan made 29 saves.
For Franman (4-15-1), Tom Oddeau and Andy Soule scored twice. Matt McGilvray chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Nate DeWolf had a goal. Cam Bisson notched a pair of assists. Brayden McGary stopped 33 shots.
In playoff action Monday at the Rochester Arena, No. 3 Homecare plays No. 6 Franman at 8:30 p.m., followed at 9:50 p.m. by the game between No. 4 Zoeller and No. 5 RSA.
The semis on March 14 will pit No. 1 Leavitt against the lowest remaining seed at 8:30 p.m. No. 2 DeNiro will play the highest remaining seed at 9:50 p.m.
The best-of-3 championship series will be played March 21, 28 and 30 (if nec.); all games at 8:30 p.m.
